We found the light in Comares

In Comares, partly due to its elevation, the light is never the same from one day or season to the next. There are places where, after a few days, you stop noticing the view. Comares is not one of those places. In fact, the longer you stay here, the more you begin to see. Not because the landscape changes, but because the light continually creates a new setting. We experience this ourselves time and time again. In the morning with a cup of coffee on our terrace, and in the evening with a good glass of wine, as the sun sinks behind the mountains and the sky fills with the most surprising colours. No two days are ever the same.
One of our favourite moments of the day is sunrise. Slowly, a soft glow appears on the horizon. First pink, then orange, and finally golden yellow. From the heights of Comares, you can watch the light gradually roll through our valley. The mountains gain definition, the white villages in the distance begin to shine, and below, near Vélez-Málaga, the Mediterranean Sea sparkles. Some days the sky is a flawless blue, and everything appears crystal clear. On other mornings, a thin mist lingers in the valleys, making it seem as though Comares is floating above a blanket of clouds. It is precisely this variety that makes it so special.
Primavera
In spring, the colours seem even more vibrant. Nature is in full bloom, the hills turn greener, and the sunlight still has that soft quality so appreciated by photographers. The days grow longer, and every morning feels like a fresh beginning. The combination of crisp air, birdsong and the first rays of sunshine lifts your spirits and fills you with joy.
Verano
In summer, the magic often shifts to the evening. During the day, the light is bright and powerful, but when the sun begins to sink lower, the real spectacle starts. These are the moments when we love to sit on the terrace. As the temperature becomes pleasantly mild, the colours change from minute to minute. Gold turns to orange, orange becomes red, and eventually the last rays of sunlight disappear into a purple and blue evening sky.
Otoño
Although many people immediately think of summer when they think of Andalusia, autumn has something truly special. The sun sits lower in the sky, allowing its warm light to linger over the landscape for longer. The colours seem more intense, and after a rain shower the air can be exceptionally clear. These are the months when you are often treated to spectacular skies. For photography enthusiasts, these may well be the most beautiful weeks of the year.
Invierno
Winter has its charm as well. The air is often crystal clear and visibility is impressive. After a rainy day, the mountains seem to stretch endlessly towards the horizon. The light is softer, the shadows longer, and the landscape takes on an almost painterly character. On some days it feels as though you can see for dozens of kilometres, and with a little luck, you may even catch a glimpse of Morocco.
La Luna
During a full moon, the landscape is bathed in a silvery glow. The mountains remain visible, and the view takes on a peaceful yet mysterious quality. During a new moon, the opposite happens. Then it becomes truly dark, and an impressive star-filled sky appears above the Axarquía. The silence, the stars and the mountains combine to create an experience that has become increasingly rare in densely populated areas.
What continues to fascinate us is how much light determines the way a landscape is experienced. The very same view can look completely different within just a few hours. The fresh morning light invites you to head out for a walk. The warm evening light encourages you to slow down, pour another glass of wine, and savour the moment just a little longer.
